Beautiful brows are made in two places: the chair, and the weeks afterwards. How you heal matters just as much as how they are embroidered. The good news is that aftercare is simple, it is mostly about patience and leaving them alone. Here is exactly what to expect.
Days 0–3: bold and dark
Straight after your session, your brows look sharp and a shade or two darker than the final result. This is normal, pigment sits on the surface before it settles. There may be a little redness. For the first few hours, make sure your brows are kept dry and clean, then follow the routine in your aftercare kit to the letter.
The golden rules from day one: keep them clean and dry, no makeup near the area, and hands off.
Days 4–7: the flaking
Around day four or five, the skin begins to flake. The colour lightens and the brows can look patchy. This is the most important rule of the whole process: do not pick. Let every flake fall off on its own. Picking pulls pigment out with it and leaves gaps.
It does not even have to be deliberate. One of my clients pulled off a large piece of scab around day seven in her sleep, and that patch lost enough pigment that it needed a touch-up to fill back in. You cannot control what your hands do while you sleep, but you can keep them off your brows while you are awake. If an accident happens anyway, do not panic and do not pick further. Message me, and once you are fully healed we will put it right.
Keep avoiding sweat, swimming, saunas, steam and hot yoga. Moisture and friction are the enemy of an even heal.
Days 8–14: the "ghosting" stage
This is the part nobody warns you about, so I will. Once the flaking finishes, your brows can look shockingly light, almost as if the colour has vanished. Right on schedule, my phone lights up: "Eh Louie, how come all the colours are gone?"
Nothing has gone wrong. The skin has just finished scabbing, everything underneath is still unstable, and the fresh skin sitting over the pigment mutes it. It is called ghosting, it happens to almost everyone, and the only treatment is patience.
Weeks 3 to 6: the colour returns
Over the following weeks the colour blooms back, softer, warmer and more natural than it looked on day one. Allow four to six weeks for the true, healed result to settle. Only then do we judge what, if anything, needs perfecting.
Healing in the Singapore sun
We live on a sunny island, so "avoid the sun" is not practical advice, and I will not pretend it is. Here is what I actually tell clients. Short, unavoidable exposure, like the walk to the MRT or the bus stop, is fine. As a rule of thumb, anything under 15 minutes of direct sun is generally okay.
Longer than that is where the damage happens: prolonged direct sun can make healing brows fade faster, and over time it can even push the colour towards grey. If you know you will be outside for a stretch, wear a cap or a pair of big sunglasses that cover the brow area. And skip the sunrise hike until you are healed.
If you want a touch-up
No brow heals perfectly even the first time, skin takes pigment differently in different spots. Once you are fully healed, you can choose whether to leave it or book a touch-up to even out the colour and sharpen the shape. Touch-ups are optional, and current tiered rates are always on the pricing page. Many clients leave it; some want the finish refined. Both are fine.
The short version
- Keep them clean and dry while healing.
- Never pick or peel, let flakes fall naturally.
- No sweat, swim, sauna or steam for two weeks.
- Do not panic during the ghosting stage.
- Under 15 minutes of direct sun is fine; longer needs a cap or big sunglasses.
